We are delighted to offer this charming antique late Victorian dragonfly brooch made c.1900.

The brooch is made from solid 9ct gold and in spectacular Victorian fashion. Featuring a dragonfly design, profusely decorated with garnet topped doublets (GTD) and seed pearls, it presents a distinguished appearance full of naturalism and motion.
During the Victorian era, insect inspired designs were popular and often symbolised certain attributes. In this instance, the dragonfly represents change and hope due to their agility and rapidly changing life cycle.

In addition to such symbolism, insect designs also offer the perfect opportunity to display high level goldsmithing, with intricate and fine wirework, curves and angles to be embellished with gemstones.
This brooch is of substantial size and utilises the dragonfly design to its fullest with a beautiful two tone contrast of green gems and the seed pearls set meticulously on its wings with four accenting green intervals. Stunning upon wearing, its lifelike design and delicately spread wings make for a wonderful accenting accoutrement - unique, lively and stylish, this brooch most certainly makes for a distinguished and discerning choice to wear with a variety of clothing.

The reverse side of the brooch has a pin (along with a safety chain) which allows it to be worn with jumpers, jackets or coats. It is also marked underneath the clasp for 9ct gold.
Not only would this piece make for an excellent collectable/display but also serves as a wonder piece of antique Victorian insect jewellery to wear on special occasions. Certainly impressionable and distinguished, this piece would be a wonderful conversation starter and the perfect way to share your passion of history and antiques.
All of our jewellery comes with a complimentary hard shell gift box with a velvet interior.
