Description and Details
We are pleased to be able to offer this exemplary piece of fine 19th century German silverware: a hand-painted enamel silver table snuff box.
Needless to say, the exterior is elaborately embellished with chased with acanthus scrolls and floral motifs in addition to the magnificent hand-painted enamel lid that is bordered by a rich dark blue frame with white accenting lines. The painting depicts a lady holding a lute whilst the gentleman behind gazes at her and two dogs in the foreground are resting.
The interior is equally matched with a silver gilt interior that lays in excellent original condition.
In hand, the heavy weight of the box is ever apparent with its widened base, curved edges and secure lid only further adding to this snuff box's majestic aesthetics. The lid and hinge are in perfect working order with an audible tight "click" upon closure.
There is no maker's marks present, however, the standard German national moon and crown mark and a 900 mark are hallmarked to the side (unlike regular 800 German silver, this box has been made with high-grade silver).
An unquestionably exquisite and fine addition for any uncompromising collector or as a display piece.
