Description and Details
We are delighted to offer this magnificent solid silver gilt cup and saucer made c.1880s likely in France. Both pieces are unmarked leaving us only with clues such as their shape and engraved decorations to deduce their age and origin, however, we have acid tested both pieces for solid silver content.Evident upon first glance, this set is of the most extravagant and luxurious order, with no component left unembellished nor 'plain'.
The cup presents a stylish flared shape at the top with a supporting pedestal foot. Particularly noteworthy is the handle that is most elegantly shaped in a Rococo-like style with asymmetric scrolls and curves. The supporting saucer also matches the cup with very finely engraved floral and foliate motifs that are decorated on top of guilloché/engine-turned motifs.
A fluted line runs from the bottom half to the matching grooves in the saucer that adds contrast and an additional angle that light can reflect off. Needless to say, the entirety is fully gilt (gold over silver) which not only gives the magnificent gold tone but protects the silver from tarnishing.
Furthermore, this beaker presents a central hand-chased cartouche with a crest in the middle with a parcel-gilt (partially gilt/plain silver) surface. The interior of the beaker continues with a fully gilt surface remaining in great condition which not only is aesthetically magnificent but prevents the silver from tarnishing with whatever content is held within. Due to its good condition, the cup is leak free and can be used in a wide range of ways even in the modern day. Whilst it would make for an excellent piece of interior decor among other wares, it can also be used practically for your favorite tea, coffee, or for even holding small desserts/items inside. *All images with other items are for display purposes only, this listing is for the cup & saucer only.

Condition
Good Condition - The set is in good antique condition, with no major damage or issues. Some very slight wear is present on the high points of the gilding and around the base of the saucer, the gilding has worn. This is however all cosmetic and does not affect use and cannot be seen unless turned upside down. A small dink is present on the handle as photographed in the last image.
We aim to overstate these issues to avoid disappointment and thus please do refer to the photos to see that such issues are not easily spotted unless under close inspection.
