Description and Details
This Imperial Russian Niello Snuff Box was crafted by silversmith & imperial court supplier Ivan Gubkin (Иван Губкин) c.1862, Moscow. Ivan Gubkin was appointed as one of the official Imperial Russian court suppliers (amongst other famous suppliers such as Fabergé, Ovchinnikov, etc) in 1855 and this is evidently reflected in the superior construction quality and overall craftsmanship of the box. The exterior features a niello acanthus motif on all sides of the box in addition to the fully gilded interior. Despite its compact size, the box has a sturdy and reassuring weight and the quality is equally matched with a smooth yet robust hinge and perfect closure of the lid. The box is fully hallmarked on both the lid and the base with the maker's mark, 84 Zolotnik, assay, town mark (Moscow) and the imperial warrant.

Good Condition - Please bear in mind this item is antique and shows signs of cosmetic wear. Please view the last photo to see the effect the lighting has on the niello - the box can appear differently depending on the angle of the lighting.
