Description and Details
We are delighted to offer this splendid Georgian solid silver goblet/cup made by Solomon Hougham, London 1801. This goblet has been made very well with a unique square-shaped base that supports the cup very steadily.
The level of hand chasing and ornamentation is particularly impressive in comparison to counterpart goblets with a high relief, deep engravings and a rich floral/acanthus motif. Further, the goblet remains in excellent condition with the chasing, stippling and engravings remaining very crisp.
The interior is fully gilt which not only contrasts the exterior silver colour but adds a layer of protection from the silver tarnishing from the contents placed within. Whilst the goblet would make for an excellent display piece, due to its shape, size and versatility, why not get creative with practical uses? The goblet is watertight, allowing for your favourite beverages to be served within or perhaps one may wish to use it as a luxurious sweets holder as photographed above.
A full set of English hallmarks are present on the base of the goblet.
