Description and Details
We are delighted to offer this Dutch scalloped-edge snuff box to our selection of global snuff boxes. Unlike typical Dutch snuffboxes, the geometric design of the box features a unique 12 sided scalloped edge design in addition to intricate acanthus/scroll-like engravings on the lid. The sides are slightly recessed from the lid and base, featuring finely machined vertical lines, highlighting the curvature of the edge.
Interior-wise, the box is fully gold plated greatly contrasting the minimalistic and modest external design. Although compact in size, upon opening the lid, the ornate yet refined design of Dutch silverware is apparent – a subtle yet key trait of Dutch silver for snuff box collectors and enthusiast of Dutch antiques.
The box is constructed from solid silver with a high polish finish on the exterior – smooth to the touch and a well-built feel in hand. The hinge operates smoothly, and the closure functions as intended with a tight fit. The box is fully hallmarked with the Dutch Silver Lion, date mark “e” for 1864, makers mark and Minerva's head (Duty Mark).
A compact and unique snuff box, ideal for personal usage on the go or alternatively as a display piece in a bespoke antique collection.
