Description and Details
We have had the pleasure to acquire and offer this stunning and very large Victorian solid silver-gilt wine ewer/pitcher/claret jug made by James Charles Edington in London, 1857.
Unquestionably, the size and presence of this jug will be its highlight upon first glance, yet upon further inspection, the elegant, aesthetic elements such as the bulbous shape and curved handles will reveal themselves with equal prestige.
In addition to the impressive craftsmanship required to make such a large piece, the artistic and geometric sense applied in shaping this jug is spectacular with a sleek & long neck, a widened base and a stylish swan-neck handle.
The entirety of the jug is 'gilt': a layer of gold that has been applied over the underlying solid silver to give the surface a lustrous gold shine.
Due to its very large and accommodating size, the jug can be used as a centrepiece object of interest in a luxurious interior setting or for those who are daring enough; a practical vessel for holding beverages of your choice (though we would recommend sharing with your friends and guests)!
There are no leaks in this jug and thus liquids can be held within.
A full set of English hallmarks are marked on the side of the spout.

Good Condition - The ewer is in good antique condition with no major damage or issues.
