Description and Details
We are delighted to be able to offer this magnificent solid silver cheroot/cigar case made by silversmith Yapp & Woodward of Birmingham in 1854.
An impressive array of details, embellishments and features are present with this exemplary case showcasing the fine silver craftsmanship of the Victorian era.
The case is made from a thick and good gauge of silver with its entire body being heavily chased with high-relief floral and foliate motifs. The front side of the case features the "hunting scene" of two armed men hunting (four) deers with an intricate and beautiful natural scenic background.
The rear side of the case presents a further continuation of chased motifs with a blank cartouche in the centre - ideal for personal engravings/monograms.
The lid and hinge of the case function well with a tight closure which ensures your content will not fall out. The thick and substantial proportions of this case will allow for cheroots/cigars/cigarettes to be stored within.
Alternatively, one may wish to come up with creative uses of such wonderful cases to store items that are used in the modern era.
The case is fully hallmarked with clear English marks.
