Description and Details
We are delighted to offer this magnificent silver-gilt Georgian cup/goblet/trophy made by William Eaton in London, 1819.
The entire goblet is fully gilt with a lustrous and indulgent rich gold tone - a process in which a layer of gold coating is applied on top of the sterling solid silver.
Such stunning tones are matched equally by its fine craftsmanship, whether be it the thick and heavy gauge of the silver (over 1kg), the intricate cast vine leaf frieze around the flared top, or the ornate engravings on the foot, the goblet presents an array of exemplary and desirable traits.
The large size allows for multiple uses ranging from a collector's display, antique interior ware, flower vase or any further creative ideas one may imagine.
The goblet has a hand-engraved presentation message that reads as follows: "From the Marques of Downshire to the Rev. John William as a small token of his esteem and to record his sense of the virtues & exemplary conduct of a truly Christian Pastor - May 1820".
There are no leaks in this cup and thus liquids can be held within.
A full set of English hallmarks are marked on the side of the cup.
Overall a superb, first cup/goblet/trophy with a dazzling gold shine, ideal for uncompromising collectors, interior decorations and for practical usage.
