Description and Details
We are delighted to offer this delightful set of four solid silver gilt Georgian salt/pin/counter dishes made by Thomas Robbins in London, 1806.The set is a very fine example of 'minimalistic' yet meticulously made George III period silverware.
Despite the dishes being rather compact, each dish is carefully formed with raised sides and a crips gadrooned border which accentuates itself from an ordinary plain dish. The dishes are gilt on the surface which is contrasted by the silver border and opposite side. Aside from the magnificent aesthetics of the gold colour, the gilding adds a layer of protection to prevent the silver from being tarnished. Due to the even number and versatility of such dishes, they can be used for a wonderful classical display or practically. Small treats such as nuts, cheese, sweets or condiments may be one of many ways you can enjoy using fine antique silverware in the modern-day. The elegantly understated design juxtaposed with its glistening gold tone is a delight upon viewing and would make for an excellent addition to other silverware.
Full English hallmarks are present on the reverse side of each dish.
Why not get creative and find alternate uses in the modern day; sorbets and ice creams would seem like a perfect match to enjoy and indulge with these cups and perhaps a pair of fine silver spoons.
