Description and Details 

We are delighted to offer this very rare and exceptional solid silver box made by L. Spiers of Birmingham during the Victorian era (1891).

The aesthetics of the box is almost of modern design, yet this was made over 130 years ago - an incredible display of foresight and craftmanship ahead of its time. The box is of superb quality with a fantastic full solid silver double-walled design. The box weighs an incredible 849g (all solid sterling) and feels like a bar of silver bullion in hand. 

Most cigar/large boxes usually have a wooden inner interior, however, this box features a unique double wall design with the inner lining also being made of solid silver with gilding on top. 

The box's exterior features a high polish finish with stylish reeded lines throughout. 

The box's heavy lid is hinged to the bottom portion in which the interior is separated into two compartments. 

The box may be used to store cigarettes/smoking accessories as well as for many creative modern purposes such as storing cards, jewellery, spices etc.  

Crisp English hallmarks are present on the bottom panel of the box.  

Overall, a superb piece of stylish Victorian silverware, aesthetically designed ahead of its time and with the utmost quality and gauge.

Condition

Fair Condition -  The box is in fair antique condition considering its age. There are some minor dings and dents on the surface with one small pierced hole on the top outer panel of the lid.

One small lead repair is present on the hinge and the interior gilding shows slight wear and marks (shown in the last image).
