Antique Georgian Silver Snuff Box with Reeded Design - 1824

Description and Details

This English solid snuff box was made during the Georgian Era by silversmith Thomas Spicer in Birmingham, 1824. Featuring a classic Georgian design, all surfaces have a reeded engine turned design with an unmonogrammed centre-piece on the lid. Contrastingly, the interior is fully gilt in gold with a semi-reflective appearance. 

As with quality Birmingham Silver objects, the construction quality presents a high degree of precision and despite its compact size, in hand, a sturdy trust-worthy feel is apparent. 

The box has had a slight repair on each corner of the base, however, considering its age (195 years), the box is in good condition with the lid and hinge functioning flawlessly with a smooth hinge and solid fit upon closure. The box is fully hallmarked with the maker's mark "T.S", silver lion, Birmingham anchor, Georgian head and the date mark "A" for 1824.

A truly timeless design complimented by the compact portability - a great little addition for personal use for an outing or for display within a collection.

Condition

Repaired Condition - Please bear in mind this item is over 190 years old shows slight signs of cosmetic wear on the exterior and interior of the item. There are a are very minor dents to the base of the box. The corners of the base have undergone discreet repairs with one fine split-start on the hinge. Please refer to the photos for further details on the condition of this item.
